CCOT Report 2013-2014
Thanks to the inherited momentum and the over whelming support of the sponsors, the CCOT Golf Committee out did itself in raising funds and helping the CCOT to continue its build-up of service to the Community.
The CCOT Golf committee under the able leadership of Mr. Sunil Vasanth and ably supported by its committee Members Peter Prem, Austin Roach, K.K Mathew, Javed Sheriff, Felix Remedios, Joe Saldanha, to name a few, succeeded not only in conducting a mega tournament but also raise funds vital to the CCOT’s efforts in helping the needy. A special mention has to be made of Mr. Rezwan Razzack & Faiz Rezwan of Prestige Group for allowing us to conduct the golf tournament at Prestige Golfshire this year.
CCOT with help from Dr. Bobby Joseph and Dr. Pretesh Kiran organized medical Camps at St. Mary’s Orphanage for more than150 children. Some issues were identified and we assisted with the after care.
This year, we continued our support to St. Mary’s Orphanage’s Carpentry section by paying monthly salaries of two trainers. These trainers teach carpentry to boys who have completed their 10th Std and develop them into skilled carpenters. This program has been a huge success as boys who complete their 10 Std have an option of not only to learn a skill but also support themselves with the money they earn. Several of these children who completed their training are contributing their skills to the success of the carpentry section.
Then of course there was the Annual Orphans’ Day program that kicks off the Club’s Christmas celebrations. This year too it was a whopping success with about 600 kids in attendance from more than 10 Orphanages, and each one going home with a hamper of substantial value. Thanks are due to our member’s efforts, and several well-wishers’ contributions, without which all this would not have been possible.
Looking ahead, CCOT will work towards supporting following basic needs of the Orphans:
Subsistence: Clothes & Hygiene kits for female children.
Education: Sponsoring & fostering children’s education- includes fees & other needs. Books & school supplies, Tutors for tuitions, setting up of Libraries in Orphanages, Support towards Higher Education.
Health: Periodical medical check-ups, supply of medicines, follow up medical care. Upgrading existing medical facilities in orphanages.
Social upliftment: Educational & social trips – Visit to exhibitions, malls, safari park, planetarium.
Infrastructural Support: Installing solar hot water systems, Classroom furniture, Mattresses & Linen in dormitories, Upgrading toilets/kitchens.
Career Counselling & Career support: Sessions on career options, Salary for trainers in carpentry, setting up a vocational training centre and or tying up with training centres to provide training in the fields of carpentry, welding, electrical, plumbing & nursing.
There is no dearth of opportunity for CCOT’s growth in our Club life. With our base of 2,800 Member families, we can rival the best in the city. What it does need more than money is volunteer service from more of us so we can do more. In closing thanks to all our sponsors Prestige Group, Toyota, PNB Housing Finance, Epson, Park Plaza, RBD Shelters, Cisco, ITC Limited, Hutti Gold Mine, Kingfisher, Abharana Jewelers, and EMC for their support.
Thanks to Drs. Bobby Joseph & Pretesh Kiran, Greg D’Sa, Gregory Denazareth, Mavis Smith, Preeti Veigas, Naveen Mendonca, Devika Johnson, Yentl D’Silva, Office Bearers and members of the managing committee, for their support and generosity.
