CCOT Report 2017-2018

Let’s start at the beginning, CCOT was a unique initiative of CC to cater to the upliftment of the less fortunate over 60 years ago. It was finalised into a Trust on December 4, 1989; I was informed that it was a one-day party for the Orphans, residing around the Club, by having a day out at the Club which still continues till date. However, over the years CCOT has been innovating and this year too was a good year. The activities during the year were:

August – September:

  1. Leadership Training by Talent ease programme: Last year we had taken up the challenge and risk for initiating a soft skill training programme conducted by Talent Ease in the Good Shepherd Orphanage. This programme was found to be very effective in making the children independent in their thought process, in being disciplined, doing their school home work independently etc. The positive changes in the children were much appreciated by the care takers of the Orphanage. On completion of the 24 sessions in 12 months of the programme there was a graduation ceremony in October 2017, and the children themselves conducted the whole ceremony from start to finish with two of them being the master of ceremonies for event. These shy and diffident children were transformed into confident and creative children with leadership qualities. It was truly a very fulfilling and satisfying occasion for us in the Committee. Looking at the effect/result of the programme, we have now in 2017-2018 extended the Talent Ease Leadership programme to all the 10-institutions with whom we interact covering a total of 620 children. This is an ongoing programme with up gradation of the sessions every year. This year the cost to CCOT is Rs.10 Lakhs. We seek financial assistance to continue this programme every year.

October 2017:

  1. Medical Camp: We had the annual medical camp for two institutions namely
    • Asha Deep located on Queens Road who came to the Club for their check-up. This was followed by Lunch.
    • Mary’s Boys Home, D’Costa Layout with a total of 250 Children.
The medical Camp is held in collaboration with the Community, Health Department of St. John’s Medical Collage. This year besides our very own doctor members led by Dr. Bobby Joseph and Dr. Pretesh Kiran from St John’s, we also had Dr. Diffna D’ Couto and Dr. Uttara Pandit beside a dedicated team from St. John’s and Hosmat. We are grateful to this team of doctors who unfailingly conduct these camps every year faithfully. Thank you and God Bless, may your tribe increase. On completion of the camp, we provide basic preventive medicines, besides dental treatment, ophthalmic requirements, and other medical help as required. For future camps, any other doctors willing to volunteer; kindly approach the committee members or the club Secretary.
  2. Equipment assistance:

The water filters were installed with the help of our member David D Costa Proprietor of Pure Water who graciously agreed to supply and install these filters at half the cost of MRP. Thank you, Dem id, for your kind gesture.

    Solar Water heater installed at:

St. Mary’s Boys Home has 180 children. The children did not have a hot water facility and hence would have a bath with cold water. During the winters they would not bathe as the water was cold because of this some of them were suffering from skin ailments. We helped by installing the Solar water heater with a special price from EMMVEE, now all the children have the facility of a daily hot water bath. Thank you EMMVEE for a substantial discount given for the Solarizer brand.

December 2017

  1. Fun Day — Christmas Party: This is a very important month for our Club and Catholic Club always begin their Christmas programme with Orphans Day and this year the traditional day was on Sunday December 3, 2017. This is a very special day for CC and CCOT and the Children also eagerly wait for it too. There is a talent competition, in dance or singing or some special skill. Some of these children practice for well over 3 months and the atmosphere is highly charged as there is a rolling trophy to be won, beside a whole lot of prizes. The highlight of this year was that Bata India sponsored the School Shoes and Hawaii slippers {Boys and Girls} for all the 600 Children, truly a very generous gesture. We are grateful to Ms Mahima Chandra of Bata. We at CC()T wish a bright future to Bata the brand we all love. Your gesture helped in bringing a smile to the faces of the 500 children. The goodie bag also contained a Sweater and eight hygiene products sponsored by Himalaya Wellness, Biscuits and Cake from Britannia, Cookies and Sweets from ITC.
