CCOT Report 2016-2017

It’s been a hectic year for the small dedicated group of intrepid adventurers at the CC Orphan’s Trust. Despite an acute shortage of active volunteers, still, quantity, or lack of it, did not get in the way of service to God’s gift to us. The few dedicated ones slogged and made it happen. And here’s the lode:

The traditional features.

  1. The Orphan’s Day. Never was so much done by so few for so many. The Christmas event, blossomed on the second Sunday of December. In full keeping with tradition. But this year with a difference. Considering the number of kids that are now cared for by our Orphanages, the number have gone beyond the scope of our premises to cater. We had to spilt the party and hold it over two Sunday, in two separate locations. And both went off with a bang. Thanks to our generous donors, they got a very well-designed school bag, made by our members – Corrine and Amar Fareed. And Santa also filled it with goodies to last the year through.
  2. But that’s not all we did. There was that other traditional routine, the annual medical check-up. We checked up 300 children over the year, and provided medical support in the form of medicines, dental treatment, spectacles, and miscellaneous medical procedures. Some of which came just in time to meet the need. Our gratitude to the volunteer doctors of the Community Health Department of St. John’s Medical College, who sacrificed their off days to run this program with us. Also, this year, we did get one or two member doctors who came forward to work with us. God, bless you dedicated professionals. May your tribe increase.
  3. Then there were the other types of material assistance we rendered through the year.
    • We provided a set of dining tables and benches to the girls of St. Mary’s Orphanage, Chamrajpet. A unique feature of this endeavour was that the entire carpentry work was done for us, free of charge, by another Orphanage we support, St. Mary’s Boys.
    • We also assisted St. Mary’s Boys’ Orphanage with part payment to repair their broken solar water heater. And got the Club’s outdated solar water system donated to them to supplement their needs.
    • There was also a need for mattress at Asha Deep. So, we stepped in to help. Part paying the cost.
  4. As been the practice over the last ten years or so. CCOT organised the annual Golf Tournament. The participation this year was not as strong, as there was another unforeseen competition on the same day. But none the less, we did get support and the results are in the accounts statement for your information.
  5. CCOT has a dynamic mind set. So, every now and again, we come up with something innovative to help our kids with.
  6. This year, we started, more or less on a pilot project basis, soft skill training. The program is currently running in two places, using two different groups, and is very well appreciated by both the kids and the nuns in charge. Next year we need to extend this work to the other institution we work with. The program is designed to stimulate independent thinking, self confidence in communication and creativity. What you get in the end is a bubbly effervescent bunch of kids ready to take on the world. And it’s happening folks. We’ve noticed it.
  7. This year, we also got back our 80G. So, folks, your donations now get a 50% tax concession. So, keep them cheques a comin’.
  8. Before I conclude, I have to record our, CCOT’s deep regret and sense of loss at the demise of Jagdeep Shetty, or Juggi as we all knew him. He was a great friend, contributor and volunteer. Farewell good soul. We will miss you. May your soul rest in a well-deserved peace. Our thoughts, at the time of writing, are with his family. May God be their comfort am strength.
  9. And finally, as I lay down office of chairman, let me close with:
    • An appeal to all our members. The opportunity to do good is immense. The needs of our youngsters are insatiable. Please consider, if all our three thousand odd members, contributed just Rs. 1,000/- a year, our bandwidth would increase to cover so much more. Also, do come and volunteer, Your time and services rewarded by the feeling of satisfaction you get.
  10. I’ll close with a hug and thank-you.
    • To all our donors. Mentioning names may not be appropriate. But they are the reason for our strength.
    • To the Golf committee, without whose dedication, and drive, our annual event could not have happened so successfully.
    • To our Club’s Secretary, Officers and Staff. For your support and hard work throughout the year.
    • To our President and Treasurer, and the Managing Committee for their support, and encouragement.
    • To all those volunteers who came forward during the year for our various events.
    • And of course, to a barmy bunch of never say die Committee Members, ever ready to say yes to a call of duty, a great big God Bless Ya.
