CCOT Report 2006-2007
Till last year, Orphans’ Day was the only time in the year that the CCOT committee got together to organize a great Christmas treat for around 500 orphans from various orphanages of Bangalore. With generous help from donors and enthusiastic volunteers the children spent the whole day starting with breakfast, continuing to lunch and then onto dancing and games and Santa Claus and Christmas gifts. They always had a blast so much so they would promise us as they left that they will be back next year.
While this was a commendable effort by the members, this year as the CCOT Trustees, the Club President and the Treasurer, along with the Vice President and the Orphan’s Day volunteers sat down to review the efforts it was felt that making a difference in the lives of these children for one day was just not enough, we needed to do more. We need to make a difference to their lives itself and for this we had to do things all year round.
So, this year a six member CCOT Committee was formed, the Trustees and the Committee meet once a month to chalk out programs to help these children in the areas of academics, health care, arts and talent promotion.
As part of our academic assistance program, a few deserving children have been short listed for Scholarships. These Scholarships will provide for the cost of fees and books for the whole year.
In April a medical camp was conducted for around 25 children from Good Shepherd convent with the help of Dr. Bobby and his medical team. More such camps have been planned in the coming months to cover other orphanages too.
This is only a small beginning and we would like to carry it forward; many more programs are in the pipeline but for this we need support and contributions.
I take this opportunity to thank the CCOT trustees, President and Treasurer, the Vice President and the Managing Committee members for all the support and encouragement. Special thanks to Orphans’ Day volunteers Preethi, Mavis, Alton, Devika, Derek, Kruthika, Ria, Naomi and the many more volunteers for all the help. Thanks are due to Felix Remedios for guitars, Nadeem of Saleh Ahmed, Mark Bartley for the sound, others who contributed to the Orphans’ Day.
