CCOT Report 2011-2012

The year ended with an annual introspection. Some successes, and some delays in success. While the accounts have been presented in a separate annexure for your consideration, we present here a breakdown of the years’ activities.

The annual Christmas programme, with around 450 kids from 8 orphanages, running riot in the club was of course the centre piece of the traditional Club celebrations for the season. Thanks to valuable contributions, from mostly commercial establishments, and a herculean effort by our very own Dudley Mascarenhas this programme has never lacked funding. As have all the other activities undertaken by the Trust. However, beyond a handful of members who contribute generously with both time and money, the real potential of the Catholic Club for this sort of work has not yet been realised. A success the CCOT yearns for, is to see more of our members actively involved with our less fortunate brethren, both in kind and personal effort.

Apart from the Christmas tree, we had a well organised golf tournament, thanks to some very enthusiastic members who chose to put their weight behind the CCOT. That generated some valuable funding that propelled our activities a little further.

The Trust funded the tuitions of children from orphanages, found jobs for some of them in Star hotels, ran an old clothes collection drive, and gave scholarships to students of two organisations. We also arranged a visit for some of the Club kids to an orphanage to expose them to the reality of the world around them. The medical camps were again organised, with the gracious help of St. John’s doctors.

Also, for the first time ever, we conducted a swimming camp for about 15 boys from the neighbouring orphanage. Naturally, joy was the result and it was a very rewarding experience.

For the coming year, there is no dearth of target opportunities for good work. Funds for such ideas are never a problem. What we could do, with more assistance, can only be imagined. Growth is the key word, and success is only a matter of time.

A special word of thanks to our sponsors, especially those that aren’t even members. Without a demonstration of their love and concern, much of the above would not have been possible. Thank you. And to our members, who labour on the CCOT Committee, and those who help with our much appreciated Estrogen High, the medical camps, the other functions that we organise so regularly, a BIG BIG GOD BLESS YA.

CCOT Committee: Gregory De Nazareth, Brian D’Lima (Trustees), Preethi Veigas, Mavis Smith, Raphael and Devika Johnson, Naveen Mendonza, Dr. Bobby Joseph, Dr. Pretesh Kiran, Augustine Ratnasamy.
